www.wcbs880.com is running a pole re:Marathon--96% (of 6,800) voted NOT to hold the Marathon--better use of city's resources to aid in the aftermath of Sandy.
Numbers are being tossed about, as to how much money the Marathon brings into the city and how it will be used to aid in disaster relief. When does it actually "appear"? If its based on tax revenue from the hotels, restaurants etc. which visitors use--the actual $ can be months away. Per Bloomberg's news conference, money has been "pledged", but again when does it "appear"?
If they waited a week (not diverting police, sanitation people etc.) the current clean-up effort might be faster.
