From living in a hurricane zone for many years, I tried to push the idea that each gas station should have one or two pumps that could run on 12 volts, so a car battery could run the pump while getting a fill-up....... or at least have a pump that can easily be wired to a generator......

I understand that frustration after a storm knocks out power---plenty of gasoline is in the station's tanks.....there's just no electricity to pump it out......and the mini-mart within walking distance can't make any sales because there's no electricity for the cash register..... so I've added a stack of singles and a roll of quarters to my emergency kit, since the store seems happy to take close-to-exact amounts of cash!
