Anybody who thinks that their complaint really is "escalated" is missing the point. Hertz monitors the nature of consumer reports, both praise and complaints. They know full well this goes on and continue to pay commissions and incentives for the sale of extras such as this.

The only thing that works is voting with your wallet. Go to Avis. If enough people go to Avis, Hertz might wise up. But, then again, who's to say that Avis doesn't do something equally scummy.
