My only experience is a client who was on the dreaded USDM (Usairways) award ticket in biz. So, my client's mother died while they were in Barcelona. They went to the airport and asked for a change.
They were on the next flight to Tampa, without fees.
Guess what--they are consummate LH travelers who pay cash. Always remembering the courtesy.
