MEM is the 41st largest MSA in the country. There are plenty of larger cities, with more Fortune 500 companies, w/o direct flights to Europe -- CLE, STL, SAT, AUS, CMH. PIT-CDG survives w/o being a DL hub because the business community stepped up and guaranteed contracts. Why doesn't the MEM business community try that? CVG-CDG survives because of the CFM jet engine freight traffic between their two main plants in Paris and Evendale, OH. MEM-anywhere will never be able to compete w/ Fedex for freight, so why try?
