My latest experience was last month, a purchase using AA (operated by SkyWest) connecting to AA operated by TN - it took less than 24 hours to issue this ticket, even though my trip is not until December.
I actually called BA a few days ago to put in a meal request. BA is the last leg back to the UK (when booking, virtually all available itineraries had this). BA had all the details of the trip including the preceding connecting AA flight, but could not do the meal request or look up seating, as it had not yet been ticketed.
I have now discovered that my credit card has not been debited either.
