If I'm not actually going to use it, it usually just serves to annoy me during the rental. It doesn't look particularly good, there's no way to just turn the thing off for the trip (that I've discovered), and it can render a couple of things inaccessible depending on what car you get. From another ride report (somewhere, I'll go look for it again) it apparently battered the knee of someone's passenger when it wasn't particularly well-mounted, as well. I don't usually travel with other people, but when I do, that's not helping its case either.
But, as always, personal preference. Some people like and want it. If anything, I'm helping those people!
