Trip Report
Flew JFK-DOH-NBO in C class. My first and possibly only time flying Qatar, so I thought I'd share my experience. Used UA miles, just before they ended their partnership with Qatar.
Online checkin didn't work and checkin at JFK was delayed due to a high maintenance family in front of me for whom there was no record they'd be traveling with a lap baby. They blamed their travel agent.
Seats on 777 were great, probably the best I've had. Safety standards were questionable, as there were three passengers standing or walking around during taxiing and no one said anything. Never seen that before. I was asked to switch seats due to a woman who didn't want to sit next to a man, but at least that moved me away from the family with the baby (see above) and their much louder three year old.
Service was great. Food choices were good, but quality was only fair. Had the Arabic Meze plate twice and its contents seem to vary depending on who is preparing it. Dessert was great though. And the godiva chocolates were much appreciated as was the fresh squeezed juice.
With a 7 hour layover, I got to go into the city and see the Islamic Art museum and the Souk Waqif. The premium terminal was fine, mostly empty when I got there but steadily more crowded as the night went on.
Flight to NBO was on A320 with old style business seats. Service still great and food still fair. IFE was the same as on 777.
These were the first legs of a trip that also included Swiss and United. Qatar seats and service were by far the best. IFE was probably the best as well. Best food, I hate to say, was actually UA.
