CASA Civil Aviation Regulation (CAR) 256 seems to be the main instrument dealing with alcohol - including the prohibition of intoxicated passengers entering the aircraft and crew alcohol limits. Interesting, there appears to be nothing prohibiting the consumption - including BYO - once on board.
There is - however - the general requirement for passengers to comply with crew requests, so maybe airlines "hide" behind that ... "CASA regulations state ..."?
Would be interesting to know whether there's a more specific Regulation or Order.
