Hi Airprox - they did say that they'd shut down the engine.

Glad it was a 747 and not a 777 as 4-1=3 sounds much better than 2-1=1.

As far as I can tell the only positive is that I got my dad a litre of duty free gin for £2.99 with a £10 Amex World Duty Free voucher. However it was quite a trek for that saving really and I doubt I'd want to do it too often.

Or do I get Avios and tier points too?
