There are currently $19 deals available on all 3 major mobile providers, with these deals generally including 50 minutes of national calling, 500 MBs data (not mobile broadband so can be used anywhere with coverage) and at least 2500 national txts. As you are a tourist, I'd suggest 2 degrees due to their cheaper international calling. Or you could pick up a cheap calling card to call the US for a few cents. Calls and txts are free to receive.
