Perspective: Have you flown WT recently if you are used to CW or F?

I have been very lucky to have managed to fly CW or even F through Op-Up's / POUG or paying for upgrades at the check-in desks, so that it had been roughly two years since I had to fly anywhere long haul in WT (note: Not talking about WT+)

With time I will admit that I had built up an impression of never wanting to fly WT again and would grimace if I thought about having to fly WT long haul..

Sadly, I recently needed to fly back home ASAP and couldn't get any award availability in any class and ended up flying back in economy with AC (BA was sold out unfortunately) which I was dreading (although happy to be able to get flights for the next day at reasonable prices)...

Imagine my surprise when our day flight actually turned out to be fine...I will admit that I was still somewhat in a state of shock (the reason for the trip not due to the cabin) which likely helped, and the person in front of me didn't recline their seat so this helped as well...but nevertheless the 9 hour flight went by fine, I watched a movie or two and ate the acceptable food (nothing special but did the job) and arrived feeling much the same as I would if I had been travelling Club...

Coming back was a nightmare in comparison as the person in front did recline fully, I needed to sleep and couldn't due to the cramped space available and time simply dragged on with no food service to break it up enroute and a very dark cabin where any light lit up quite an area so didn't want to disturb others...

So, in future I will definitely consider travelling long haul in WT on day trips for vacation if there is no award availability for that leg in Club or F if that allowed me to choose a CW or F leg back (whereas in the past I wouldn't have considered booking an award trip unless both legs were CW or higher with Avios)...

So...honestly...how many of you have tried long haul WT recently that do fly up front (whether through work or private) and did you honestly find it better than you thought/acceptable or were your 'never again WT' thoughts reinforced?

I certainly will not be worrying with quite so much trepidation if I should have to do a day trip leg in Y again (at least until I get jaded again!)
