I have to dissent and say I think LCY is a joy to use.
Agreed taxi time can be variable but DLR from Bank is great...and I have never seen an excessive security line. Further, those in front of you tend to be seasoned travelers so rarely wait as a once a decade flyer removes wine bottles and water from carry ons.
Also agree that you can cut it damned close if you print your boarding pass online ahead of time.
The pens aren't great but it is rare that you are in there more than 10-15 minutes.
Finally, my final praise is free wifi (sponsored by Credit Suisse--speaks to departure flyer demographics), and the main waiting area has lots of power outlets, workspace, and two pubs.
My only complaints from probably 50 departures/landing over the past 2 years:
1) Excess stairs on arrival. On some arrivals you descend stairs at plane exit, go back up, go back down, and finally go back up, and down again. Sometimes it is apparent there might be less vertical ways to exit
2) on those few occasions where I have needed to check/gate check baggage, on arrival they seem to deposit bags in the wrong arrivals bin frequently (3x out of about 6x I have needed to wait 10 minutes until they cart over the flight's luggage from the adjoining claim; mystifying incompetence)
