Hi there
teemuflyer
You're asking in the wrong place
The AA award ticket called an Explorer has nothing to do with the Oneworld Explorer ticket, which is a ticket you buy with money and is the topic of this thread
There is an extensive thread in the AAdvantage forum that discusses the AA Explorer award - see here
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...er-awards.html. The first post gives the basics of the ticket
The quick answer to your question is:
- if there is a First segment in the itinerary, then the whole itinerary is considered First and you are charged the miles for First
(this might be different if the only First segments are on US domestic flights where the plane only has First and Coach cabins - I don't the answer there)
And BTW - the AA Explorer award ticket is not (necessarily) a RTW ticket. It can be, but there is no requirement to go RTW
