Trust me; I lived there for over four years and have to say Cape Town winters are awful. It is quite common to experience heavy rain for three weeks solid and it is heavier rain than you get in Scotland, where I come from originally. Granted, it is not nearly as cold as in the UK but the combo of wind and rain can be truly depressing. Having said all of that, you don't go to Cape Town for the weather. The scenery is truly awe-inspiring. Remember also that you can't swim comfortably in the sea off the Cape coast, thanks to the cold Benguela current. The sea is bone-chillingly cold, even though, on a nice day in summer, it looks really inviting.
