Not the North Star. You won't feel comfortable walking in the area.
Jury's Inn chain are very good for the basics. Its on the riverside. I'd allow 10 minutes at least for the walk. The Harbourmaster has nice food, and you could check out the route to the station, as its on the way there.
In the other side of the station, nearer the city centre, try the Dublin City Inn on Talbot Street (used to be a Days Inn) if you just want basic clean reliable with no frills. Or similar on the same street. You can get a nice fairly inexpensive meal in Restaurant 101 (upstairs at 101 Talbot Street). The hotel is max 5-10 minutes walk to Connolly station.
