Shortfalls at GHKL are common, and some of them are just laughable. However, I came to realise on the second day of my visit that these shortfalls are not unique to GHKL. They are everywhere in the city! The local people -- may it be a salesperson at the shopping mall or a waitress at a classy restaurant -- are simply not used to delivering solutions quickly and precisely.

This is what is known around the world as Malaysia Boleh! I'm amazed that anything works in that country - give it a few years and regular visitors to the GHKL will get use to mediocre - that is what Malaysia runs on. Having said that, I would also state that the Hyatt staff in both Kuantan and KK are superb as are the staff at the Sheraton Langkawi resort. My experience in that country has pointed me away from the large expensive chain hotels to smaller or privately run places. I never had much need of a hotel in KL proper, although earlier this year had a very unremarkable stay in the converted ICKL.
