I've qualified a few times on segments in the past and it leads to hilarious routings so I can sympathize. Nothing quite like flying LGA-PHL-DCA on US Airways instead of simply doing the LGA-DCA shuttle just to reach 60 or 90 segments for the year. You also get some great conversations with the premier line during IRROPS - "I understand there is a direct flight, but can you provide me an option with the most possible connections to get home? Denver to Houston to Chicago to Laguardia? Sounds perfect."
