had to do this trip recently and after considering the options, decided to fly SIN-LAX on SQ and then UA to ORD before hiring a car to drive to Champaign. Reasons : a) I detest FRA, JFK and EWR - especially in winter; b) LAX has its downsides but its not been too unpleasant the last few trips; c) there are lots of connections to ORD from LAX d) the American Eagle shuttle to Willard is more expensive and has less flexibility than driving - only 3 hours from ORD on expressways and you can always stop over in Chicago for meals (I paid a visit to Hot Dougs)
