Yes I have done exactly this..it's no problem (I posted about it earlier in this thread). You can also still get a printed UA BP in T3 if you need to using the shared airline check in kiosks.

I also did this a few weeks ago myself. Printed a BP from the generic machines before security in T1 and it successfully beeped for my UA flight.
