I don't remember the days of cloth up front, but I will say the leather they used on the pillowy seats of the -400s (and early -900s) seems to be a better quality leather (almost real) versus the pleather used on the -700s and -800s. That stuff doesn't breathe at all, which makes for pleasant sensations when it's hot.
