I have not experienced this personally - I had one experience where I was told my flight was changed, but it was not. Ended up with a hostile agent while trying to get it fixed; conversation wasn't as easy or nice as I had hoped.

All calls since have been excellent though. Just luck of the draw?

EDIT: Also have heard about 'Eagles'. Someone else could probably elaborate on their potential effect?
