I actually spend about 2 hours of it in the air, our plane was diverted back to LHR, the rest of the time was spent in the CCR or Sofitel, so it was not as bad as it sounds.

For those not lucky enough to be in F or J, it was time spent in the main terminal or the Ibis. I suspect their view of the experience is somewhat different to mine, in fact we met a couple at the hotel who did experience it and they are still not BA's biggest fans!

In their case 1,200 EUR would have eased the pain significantly and probably had them not actively trying to avoid BA, so the policy could actually help airlines in the long run (in certain cases anyway)
