You need to be strong and refuse to present a passport in Dublin. In 2008, I was flying back to Dublin each weekend and my preference was to show my Hong Kong ID card (which lsts Dublin as birthplace) together with boarding pass. I can't remember the last time I showed my passport. I have no obligation to carry it and they have no right to insist on it!
