This is incorrect. Weekend service on the #7 is only being suspended between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza. Service between 33rd Street/Rawson and Queensboro Plaza is unaffected, and there is an easy, across-the-platform transfer at Queensboro Plaza between the #7 and the N and Q trains. (Q train service is being extended to Astoria on the weekends when #7 service is affected.)

Another option is the Q60 bus between 33rd Street/Queens Boulevard, and Second Avenue/60th Street in Manhattan.

So a trip between 33rd Street/Rawson and Manhattan might take a few minutes longer, but I would not describe it as "quite a hassle."
