Definition: Through Flight ["direct" flight]

I am on AA flight 50 DFW to LHR this Thursday, with a tight connection from LGW to VCE on AA flight 6475.

However, AA 6475 is operated by BA. Can someone tell me if this is considered a "through flight?" My understanding is that if I miss a through flight, AA will work to get me on the next flight. If it is not a through flight, I'll just be stuck in Gatwick.

Is through flight status determined by my AA flight number? Or, is it determined by the fact that LGW to VCE is on BA metal, which means it's not a through flight?
