I'm intrigued by your logic that would make an iPad acceptable, but a laptop unacceptable. My guess is you use an iPad when you travel!
I realise you are most probably being deliberately controversial with your post, but I don't really understand what your issue is. Maybe a third option would be passengers allow a bit more time, take a deep breath and try to relax (or if you really hate it that much, find another way to travel).
