If it is domestic I always book as 2 one ways. Easier to deal with almost all the time if need to change flights/dates.
A handy tip I picked up when I formerly flew domestic hundreds of times a year, was that the call centre would only charge you one change fee on a pile of tickets all booked within minutes of each other (if you were lucky).
