October is one of the busiest months of all around Jiuzhaigou. I expect first week of November will be not quite as busy but still lots of tourists around. I still recommend booking ahead for this period. What websites are you using? You should be using reliable China-based sites that have more options loaded into their systems:
www.ctrip.com
www.elong.net
www.sinohotel.com
www.agoda.com (Asia-based)

Note that if you want international name brand properties, you are limited to the Intercontinental (poor location and expensive) and the Sheraton (much better location, can walk to JZG park entrance, still expensive). Other than that, you'll need to deal with Chinese independent hotels, inns, and hostels. Regardless of price bracket, you get less for your money at Jiuzhaigou than in other more normal accommodation environments around China.
