lol, this intricate knowledge comes from the tour we got of the luggage handling system in the MUC T2 bowels as part of the JU52 Do in August 2010. I'm always peeved for waiting 30-45min for my luggage to show in MUC so I took particular interest. Belts 1-16(or 18?) are not connected to the sorting system except belt 9. Usually a container from the aircraft is pulled directly on the other side of the belt and all baggage dumped on to the belt. Which explains why elite luggage doesn't appear first etc etc. MUC also doesn't scan terminating luggage, so usually they have no clue if your luggage really arrived in MUC. Only if the automated transit handling scanned it once will the system know where the luggage is.
