Agree with those who say take the iPad2 (which will be regarded as a vintage item in lots of places in Asia! ). Unless you are really roughing it I can't imagine that you will have too many problems in most highly tech-savvy Asian countries. I wouldn't think of travelling without mine for personal use/entertainment.
