An ipad 2 is worth maybe 200 bucks these days.. i don't think you can buy any 'cheap one' that will cost less and have as much functionality to be honest.

Where abouts in Asia are you going? I just went through japan, india, singapore without issue with ipad 3, iphone 5, laptop, canon SLR, etc.

going to russia/china next month with similar setup.. not too worried. unless u're backpacking through asia, i think you'll be fine!
