Not so--I left a pair of shoes at a Best Western a few months ago, noticed when I got home and called. The maid had found them when making up the room and turned them in to the office. They offered to send them out to me, although they did charge for shipping. I really like the shoes, and shipping was far less than the replacement cost, so I was happy.

On the other hand, I left a ring full of luggage keys in a luxury hotel in Genoa a number of years ago--realized when I got to our next stop, called and they were "gone." Good thing Mr. Fwoomp and I were carrying duplicate sets.
