Oct 7: 11:30pm cab from the AOT stand on the Arrivals level. Driver insisted that "after midnight, no meter, 500 baht, I pay tolls." I was tired after 28 hours of travel and let it go. He skipped the first toll, but we were tired and the difference seemed minimal to me at the time.

Oct 14: 3:30am cab from Surawong at Phat Pong to BKK. Driver suggested flat rate, but I insisted on meter and that I would pay tolls. I remembered the tolls from here as 70B and 50B, so I handed over 70 ahead of time. Turns out the tolls were 45B and 25B. Total on the meter was 253B when we arrived, and I gave him 264B since I had some change to use anyway. So total of 334B.

Is there any difference in toll costs and meter rules in the midnight to 6am timeframe? I hadn't heard about either, and that seems kind of important (whether true or not!)

Edited to add the answer for those searching: No. Thanks transpac!
