Pitch is a measurement unaffected by seatback thickness. If the company wants to argue there's more legroom in spite of shorter pitch with more rows of seats, go for it. Such a seat design has met with hostile reaction on the Southwest forum.
We're going from 5 galleys to 3 more efficient galleys and from 2 closets to 1 closet all while maintaining the same service standards. That freed up space.
The original configuration delivered to Northwest had 120 seats aft of the overwing exits pitched at 30". After the mod there will be 36 seats pitched at 30" with the remaining YC seats at 31".
