As far as I can tell, it's by spend category, so FreshCo ought to work. On the other hand, you don't get the multiplier for any foreign transactions, as they go into a "foreign transaction" bucket.
Another annoying thing: I booked a ticket in US Dollars and cancelled it following a schedule change. Because they charge 2.5% for the conversion each way, I was out about $200.
