If I read it correctly, your concern is that you will loose your R seat for Oct 16 if you made a change of your return flight now now. Then why not change it to the flight that is R > 0 once you at LHR? That way, your concern is no longer valid and like others had said, you can change without fee, so pick the one with R > 0 on it.
