Granted, we were staying at amanjiwo, but this part of Central Java is one of my favorite holiday spots in the world for relaxation in a beautiful natural location, among friendly people, with remarkable cultural monuments. Trying to tick off the monuments while dashing from place to place, through sometimes snarled traffic, would basically ruin it-- for me, anyway. When you add the travel time from your hotel to DPS, you're talking about a very very long day. This itinerary is nothing like trying to take the shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and hitting a couple of major temples in a day. I wouldn't even want to do this with one night's stay overnight. But if you insist, give yourself at least one night in Java. You can do Prambanan upon arrival at JOG, on your way to your hotel. Then do early morning at Borobudor and fly back to Bali that night.

My other favorite place in the world for relaxation is Bali. So I understand not wanting to give up a night in Bali. But day-tripping to Borobudor is not recommended at all.
