I think the general consensus is that using miles for an MFU or straight miles booking in club or first is where you can get best value for money - particularly if combined with an Amex 241.
For example, 30k miles will cost £400, but if this is the difference between a miles balance of 90k and 120k, you will find that the extra 30k allows you to redeem a return to JFK in first class rather than club, and the £400 difference may be worth it for some.
