I was trying to decide between the Grand and Mission Bay but it sounds like the Grand gets a ton of bad reviews.
I've stayed in both properties. In the last few years, I've had MB rooms that ranged from very nice to very not-so-nice. They have a low-rise and a high-rise. The latter has the nicer rooms.

It really boils down to whether you want a laid-back location or be close to downtown and the active Gas Lamp district. But part of the GH location is the view of the water on one side and the city on the other. It's nothing short of eye-popping spectacular, at least from the RC and upper floors.

Much of the bad vibes about the GH is disagreement with the previous owner's political contributions.

Of the two properties I prefer GH by far, but I don't mean to take anything away from MB. The GH view is hard to forget, as well as the nice interior appointments in the various public spaces. Everyone should stay there at least once.
