You are right on this flight - I'm used to the "old" way where the view/change seats would display an Economy seat tab and an Upgrade Requested seating tab. This was the way to know a waitlist is pending and still exists.

At checkin (either the requested upgrade flight or an earlier connection) the Upgrade Requested seating tab disappears. When checkin on the earlier connection you would move to the Upgrade Standby list even if it was T>24.

I was interested to see if the Blue Link actually carried beyond the checkin and gave you "better visibility" that the Upgrade was still pending. I now know there really is no better visibility in this regard.

In my case, I called back to 1K and insisted on a Supervisor since I wasn't appearing on the second segment upgradeable flight's standby list UA84 on 13 Sept (and this same thing happened to me in July of this year). This time they did something in the reservation to move me into the queue and I'm second on the list.

Again - something was wrong and the first line agents are telling me to wait to T-24. I find I'm still not on the list (because there is something wrong in the reservation/system) and they declare "we can no longer manage the list - it's under Airport Control".

I was told by the UC supervisor - if you can't see yourself on the Upgrade Standby list - You aren't really there - duh! So insist until you can see on the screen.
