My first Diamond qualification a few years ago was similar to yours. Hit Diamond status about 39 min into a flt to SYD, not that I was calculating it or anything.

On the return flt, status was already in the DL system and the extra bonus miles posted. Even better, this is certainly why I got an op-up on that return flt. Welcome to DM, life is definitely better at the top tier. ^
