I'm hung-up on the use of the word "or." Is there any reason to use both the room upgrade and the suite upgrade at the same time?

As in, if I book the most basic room (Room 1) at hotel X, and use a suite upgrade with that reservation to get Suite "A", would I get Suite "B" (which is a step up from Suite "A") if I used the room upgrade to get Room 2 (being a step up from Room 1), and then used the suite upgrade? Or is using the room upgrade with the suite upgrade just a waste of the room upgrade certificate?

I must admit that I don't understand your first sentence.

Does that mean if that the room you originally booked costs, say, $100, but the upgraded room (through the use of the suite certificate or room certificate [or both?]) would cost, say, $200, and use you the 3rd night free certificate, your total cost for the room for 3 nights is $200 ($100 times 2 paid nights)? Or is it $400 ($200 times 2 paid nights)?

ETA: Or are you saying that the rate that you booked your reservation with (AAA, Best Available, whatever) must allow for the use of upgrade certificates?
