SPG transfer
Hi,
If you end up transferring to an airline's program, you would get 154,000 miles for your 124,000 SPG points. That's a 5,000 bonus for every 20,000 transfer you make (a total of 6 in your case). If your child is under 2 and won't need a seat, it doesn't require an extra reward. I think there is a 10% fee you have to pay but that's about it - you would have to find that out from the airline you end up choosing. Based on what you described, it sounds to me that BA might be your best choice. Right now, BA and QF operate routes to Australia but come Spring 2013, Qantas will not be flying to London anymore - they will be going as far as Dubai and Emirates will be used to provide onward connections to Europe. Not sure if BA will continue to fly to Australia without the joint venture with Qantas. Based on your destination of Perth, you would definitely need to connect at least once, if not twice. This could be in Asia or Australia or both. Based on my experience, AA has good redemption rates and since they are in the Oneworld alliance, you can redeem on both BA and QF. You can go to their website, aa.com and check availability for travel dates in April/May of next year and find out what BA/QF combinations you can find between London and Perth. The good thing about booking flights as rewards is that it's easier to change (there might be a fee involved though) and there is no fare difference you need to pay. You do have to make sure there is award space available for the new dates though. I hope this has helped you.
