They just showed a picture of the "smoke grenade" on the news. Forget what you have imagined. It was a paper tube, M-80 size, smoke bomb with a fuse similar to commercial and legal fireworks, but labeled "smoke grenade." Still prohibited, but far from the military ordnance that I had thought the article had led me to believe.
