In my experience it is about as good as it gets in the LHR "area" although I am sure there are some hotel restuarants that I havent had that are decent.

Most of the hotels I have stayed in at LHR have cars that they can call and take you back to the airport for like 10GBP and you could take the express into the city. Could be under 30 minutes that way and then your options are opened up a bit.
