This used to be different as I used to always get a 'fresh' BP upon leaving the lounge. But it seems to not work anymore. At least not for me..
I touched on that topic a few months ago:

The machines are in no way different - they are the same machines.

The only difference is that, when you go to use the "transfer" ones as you call them (being airside), you already have printed off your boarding pass.

Had you arrived from an outstation, the "transfer" machine would behave the same way as the "check-in" machines (using your notation - again, they are identical) and issue your boarding pass, given that the system knows you don't already have a boarding pass for your next flight.

If anything changed, it was (as I noted before) that it is no longer as easy to re-check your connection and change seats. Somtime in the last year or so, KLM changed something so that you cannot continually re-print new boarding passes at the airport. It seems now that you can only print a boarding pass once only from any of the blue machines - regardless of whether they are airside or landside. (If you had already received a boarding pass by email or PDF, it asks you - are you sure you want to re-print the boarding pass?)

I had the case recently where I noticed at the machine in the lounge that I'd received an op-up; clearly, therefore, I needed a new boarding pass; but the machine would not re-print the boarding pass.
