Well if you got the wrong person, they may point out that the new member needs to agree to the terms and conditions. Hence my carefully worded and quote marked earlier answer. I'm assuming the person concerned does not already have a BAEC account, but if they did then you better 'fess up first since (a) they will want to retain their Avios and (b) they will get an email welcoming them to Gold, based on their existing preferences.

I was just suggesting that I'm sure the GGL have come across this previously and as such I'm sure would know the answer.

Biggest question is why is the OPs friend flying for work but with no BA membership
