A quick look on tfl shows that yes you're right! Don't know how that works mind you, as I thought the platform had been ripped out making it impossible.
They go a slightly different way, which is only possible due to the lower frequency.
To the original question, really you can stay more or less anywhere in London and use the Tube and other transport network to get where you need.
