The ground service I mentioned was at JFK.

I got to the airport about two hours early, there was absolutely no one else in line for check in in Y class. The lady behind the counter (not asian) was attempting to satisfy my request when another employee came up on his own. He invited himself to use her computer over her shoulder. I made the same request to him that I made to her and for whatever reason he spend all this time searching for a seat (the selection was obviously huge). I think it was unnecessary waste of time, I've had, and usually have quicker service at Air Asia counters.

The movie selection I'm comparing SQ to are Qantas (whose A380 service I've flown a number of times now in coach as well, and the service I have received was far superior) as well as Qatar. Again, the service on Qatar was significantly superior to SQ. To be honest, based on all the hype I was hoping SQ would be something similar to Qantas or Qatar, but it wasn't.

The movie selection I think is a valid gripe. I was not looking for some obscure movie, but a Hollywood blockbuster that has came out quite recently. I would imagine most highly ranked airlines would have it. Though in fairness, on my flight home Japan Airlines didn't have it either... their movie selection was even more limited than SQ.

I'm well aware of the customer service in Asia... I've spent some time in Singapore last year. I'm also aware that you're entitled to nothing in Singapore... ie. I complained to the Marina Bay Sands staff that my hot tub had no hot water, and all they could say in response: "we'll make a note of it" which did absolutely nothing for me during my stay!
